GET TO KNOW ME.
My name is Alexandra Berardelli. I'm from Brooklyn, New York and I’m a recent graduate of the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA. I studied Classics, focusing on ancient Greek and Latin languages and culture. I also pursued interdisciplinary academic interests in ancient Roman rhetoric, classical reception, and Stoic philosophy, as well as modern U.S. politics, rhetoric, media, and public policy in political science courses.
I’m serving as a Fulbright ETA Fellow* (25-26) in Athens, Greece.
I fell in love with writing while serving as the chief opinions editor of my college's newspaper. I would write Op-Eds about anything, and that enthusiasm is what drives this blog as well.
BEHIND THE BLOG.
In 2023, a social media trend emerged, asking people—particularly men—how often they thought about the Roman Empire. Since then, many have used this reference to imply that it relates to something someone thinks about frequently. As a woman who actually studies the ancient Roman Empire, I think about it every single day.
But this blog is not only inspired by my work as a Classicist, but also by the idea of exploring things that occupy our daily thoughts. Oftentimes, this means literally bringing us back to the ancient Romans.
This blog explores our daily hyper-fixations, both positive and negative. There will also be opportunities to present interesting connections between modern life and the ancient past. As a female scholar in the Classics, I find it essential to utilize my interest in the modern reception and application of the Classical world to explore valuable lessons from our everyday lives that connect us to a seemingly distant past.
Anything goes with this. Let’s have fun.
